WHY I WROTE THIS

I’m Gramskii. I spent thirty years in advertising, selling people things they didn't need with money they didn't have. Then I noticed the planet was on fire and I seemed to be holding the matches. So, I wrote this book as a sort of community service.

The Jigsaw Without A Lid

When I get into any conversation about global warming it reminds me of a time when I've tried to finish a jigsaw without the lid showing me what the finished puzzle looks like.

It's the same with the climate jigsaw. Some of us are hunting for pieces that look like "sky" (the environment), others insist we need to focus on finding the pieces that look like "trees" (fossil fuels), while a more radical gang hunt for the straight edges (politics). But because none of us can see the big picture, we aren’t effective. We are fighting little battles instead of joining together to win the war.

An even bigger problem is that, when we don't see the big picture and don't know what to do, we don't even try. It all looks too big a problem to tackle on our own, so we give up even before we've begun. I mean, who wants to put together a jigsaw without the box lid?

None of which is an accident. The fossil fuel companies are hiding the lid because they don't want us to see the completed image. They would rather see the planet burn than lose their profit margins.

A Force More Powerful

In this book, I’ve tried to clearly describe the big picture without scaremongering. When you take your time, you'll find that understanding the problem isn't difficult or frightening.

A hummingbird is someone who takes responsibility. They change their behaviour and their buying choices, knowing that even one person can make a difference. They know that, when we work together, we are far more powerful than the system that currently threatens us.

But if you aren't a famous influencer yet, that’s perfectly OK.
